The story is of a kingdom which was situated surrounding a huge lake. The people of the kingdom find themselves in great difficulty when a drought strikes and the lake is reduced to a barren land without any life giving source of water.
The people of the kingdom approach the king with their problems. The peasants told there was no water for their field, the fisherman said their children and family are in danger of starving to death.
The king listening to the pleas of villagers, and children and women, sent four of his greatest warriors in four directions East, South, West and North. The story goes on to tell each warrior's experience. And how the warrior sent to North does not gives up easily for the sake of the people of his kingdom.
He finds a woman who shows him ice on the huge mountains. She told him, that was the source of water. The warrior picks up a huge chunk of ice, loaded on his chariot and rides towards his kingdom.
Reaching the kingdom he finds the huge piece of ice reduced to small chunk. The king and the people of the kingdom are amazed to see the ice, as it was the first time they saw ice.
The king said it was the seed of water and should be sown. The peasants dug the earth to sow the seed of water. By the time they put the tiny piece of ice in the hole they dug it disappeared. This brought about a great deal of disappointment in them. Whole night they dug the earth in order to find the lost seed of water. Totally exhausted in the morning they slept besides the huge piles of sand they had dug.
The king in the morning wanted to see the result of the sowing of the seed of water. Was quite amaze to see lot of earth being dug, and tired peasants sleeping. He looked in the place where the earth was excavated, and was highly pleased with what he saw. He exclaimed, wake up my good workers, the seed has successfully bore water. This is how the first well came in existence.
